The design originated from the homeowners’ longing for a slow-paced lifestyle, hoping to preserve warmth and a sense of time within daily living rather than pursuing an overly decorative style. Centered on the principles of gentle texture and natural balance, the designer selected a Maillard-inspired color palette as the spatial foundation. Soft layers of brown, caramel, and creamy tones are carefully built up to create a calm atmosphere reminiscent of sunlight resting on wooden surfaces. Instead of prioritizing visual drama, the overall planning responds to lived experience, allowing the space to become a vessel that carries everyday rhythms.
The highlights lie in its sensitive response to flexibility in everyday life. Rather than favoring extensive storage, the homeowners wished to let solid wood furniture, vintage pieces, and the intrinsic qualities of materials become the visual focus. As a result, storage was designed according to a principle of “just enough”—never overfilled, but intentionally left with moments of emptiness, allowing light, traces of daily life, and the passage of time to become part of the space.
The social area departs from the conventional television-centered layout and instead revolves around a generously sized dining table as the core. Paired with a retractable projection screen, the space can freely transition between dining, working, and resting. The kitchen island and bar counter extend culinary functions while also serving as flexible nodes for temporary work and casual interaction.
Within the open-plan layout, the designer deliberately retained a sense of boundary through furniture scale, continuous flooring, and layered lighting. Most of the solid wood furniture and vintage items were purchased by the homeowners before the design process; therefore, the spatial proportions were recalibrated around these pieces, allowing each object to integrate naturally into the environment.
