In Chinese folk belief, Mazu is revered as the sea goddess and the patron deity of seafarers. This faith originates from legends and myths surrounding Mazu, which depict her ability to calm storms and waves, and to rescue sailors and fishermen from shipwrecks.
The “Ensure Success” zone is centered around the theme of The 2024 Lantern Festival lighting up and Mazu’s blessings. The main lantern, adorned with lifelike and cheerful marine creature motifs, brings a happy and harmonious atmosphere, enriching the festival experience for all attendees. Additionally, these lanterns symbolize the abundant good fortune, wealth, and happiness in the new year.
The design of the main lantern zone, coupled with entry through the Pingan Gate, portrays a journey through time and space. It depicts the vibrant scene of worshipers crawling beneath the stationary litter, symbolizing progress towards success and wishing for the safety, health, prosperity, and wealth in the upcoming year.
The dignified and compassionate expression of Mazu, coupled with the shifting layers of lighting and healing music, imbues every detail of the lighting design with background meaning. These elements lead the viewers to embrace positive energy and courageously confront the challenges of each day.
“Cherish Blessings, Ensure Success” zone features “Mazu” as the theme, with the main lantern “Wealth, Health, and Peace,” alongside displays named as “Success in Career Advancement,” “Victory in Competitions,” “Safe Childbirth,” “Success in Research and Development,” “Financial Prosperity,” “ Harmonious Marriage,” “Ample Rest,” “Academic Achievement,” and “Fulfilling Relationship.” With a total of ten displays, it seeks the smooth attainment of national, social, and individual aspirations, wishing for all-round success and safety.
The main lantern, titled “Wealth, Health, and Peace,” features the figures of Mazu, Qianliyan, and Shunfeng'er, towering at the entrance of Pingan (meaning “safe” in Chinese) Gate and the exit of Chenggong (meaning “success” in Chinese) Gate. It symbolizes our journey starting from a safe entrance, then embarking on the path to success. The entire lantern display zone intertwines with six stories from Taiwan and Tainan, ingeniously blending traditional and innovative art forms to convey the beauty of Taiwanese history.
