Shuhan Fu Private Club

Guided by the concept of "Hidden Realm of the Ancient Formation, Serenity Returning to the Mind," the design reinterprets the spatial philosophy of the Thousand-Year Dry Eight-Trigram Formation through a contemporary architectural language. Rather than reproducing historical symbols or traditional decorative motifs, it translates the ancient principles of solidity and void, concealment and revelation, rhythm and order into an immersive Oriental environment that balances cultural heritage, refined minimalism and modern lifestyles.
Inspired by the strategic wisdom embedded within the historic military formation, the project creates a progressive spatial sequence where architecture, landscape and interior spaces unfold with carefully controlled openness and layered experiences. Natural timber, stone, translucent materials and intentional negative space establish a restrained yet emotionally engaging atmosphere, allowing Eastern philosophy to be expressed through timeless forms with global relevance.
Lighting is conceived as an architectural element rather than a decorative addition. From the earliest design stage, architecture, landscape, lighting and circulation were developed as an integrated system. A layered low-colour-temperature lighting strategy works in harmony with timber screens and translucent stone to create refined textures of light and shadow while minimizing glare and visual disturbance. Intelligent IoT-enabled controls, ergonomic research and daylight-responsive technologies allow the lighting environment to adapt to seasonal changes, natural daylight and occupant activities, enhancing visual comfort, spatial perception and environmental performance.
The project also demonstrates a holistic approach to sustainability through responsible material selection, ecological lighting strategies and long-term operational efficiency. Low-VOC natural timber, microcement, recyclable metal fixtures and modular lighting components reduce environmental impact while improving durability and maintainability. High-efficiency lighting systems, adaptive dimming and zoned controls further minimize energy consumption and light pollution, protecting the surrounding night-time ecology. By expressing Oriental aesthetics through abstraction, spatial restraint and the poetic interplay of light and shadow, the design establishes a contemporary living environment where cultural continuity, technological innovation and environmental responsibility are seamlessly integrated.
