HWATU (花鬪)
"HWATU" is a sophisticated evening wear collection that masterfully bridges traditional Korean cultural motifs with the timeless, structural elegance of 1950s couture silhouettes. Inspired by the nostalgic floral and seasonal iconography of the traditional Korean card game "Hwatu," this collection recontextualizes personal heritage through a lens of contemporary high fashion. At the heart of the collection is the meticulous artisanal craftsmanship displayed in the intricate beading details. Each motif—drawn from the 48-card deck featuring symbols of flowers, animals, and landscapes—is meticulously rendered as hand-stitched embellishments on delicate off-white silk organza. The juxtaposition of the airy, triple-layered organza ball gown and the bold, structured red silk ribbon accents on the shoulder creates a visual dialogue between softness and strength. By deconstructing a familiar cultural pastime and reassembling it into a luxurious sartorial narrative, HWATU offers a visionary perspective on modern luxury—one that honors the richness of Korean heritage while maintaining a global, high-end aesthetic.
