Drawing inspiration from the essence of Lingnan Gardens, this design develops a systematic vertical mountain-water courtyard residence. Through in-depth research on classical Lingnan garden aesthetics, it creates multi-layered courtyards where natural landscapes and architecture integrate seamlessly.
The vertical courtyard represents a contemporary reinterpretation and vertical elevation of the traditional Lingnan "t'ing-yuan" courtyard typology. Every floor delivers a strong sense of enclosure and belonging, wrapped in immersive natural scenery. The dynamic shifting of vistas, once confined to horizontal layouts, now unfolds across vertical elevations and winding circulation routes. Visitors experience layered perspectives—overlooking, eye-level viewing, and upward gazing—reviving the sense of wonder and discovery intrinsic to Lingnan garden experiences.
The design distills three core spirits of Lingnan gardening philosophy: the spatial logic of rock piling and water layout, the narrative sequence woven by covered verandas, and the emotional symbolism of "hometown waters". These timeless concepts are translated into contemporary design language, forming a modern artistic interpretation deeply rooted in local cultural heritage.
Centered on water as the core thread, verandas as narrative links, and vertical garden touring as the structural framework, the project forms a spiritual realm that retains the warmth and familiarity of Lingnan cultural memory while embodying modern artistic vitality.
