This project is a compact residence of approximately 66 square meters, designed for a married couple. The homeowners are outgoing and enjoy hosting guests, placing high expectations on the openness and comfort of the social area. While they initially preferred a modern style, the designer believed that true comfort arises from an orderly space that does not feel intrusive. Overly dark tones or strong modern expressions would have compressed the sense of scale in the long and narrow layout. Therefore, the design takes “brightness” as its core. While retaining a modern design language, neutral color palettes and layered linear elements were used to organize and “catalog” light, creating a living space capable of accommodating daily gatherings and meaningful family interactions.
To achieve a clean and luminous visual atmosphere, the living room TV wall deliberately avoids excessive cabinetry and display elements. Instead, it is finished with a special textured coating, paired with three layers of indirect lighting that allow the wall surface to present a soft and relaxing glow at different times of the day, returning the space to its essential functions of viewing and rest.
Storage functions are strategically concentrated at the entryway, the dining sideboard, and the side cabinet adjacent to the TV wall. Through pull-open cabinet doors on both sides, daily necessities can be fully concealed when not in use, preserving a sense of spatial purity in everyday life.
The dining area becomes the space with the strongest sense of ritual within the home, functioning as a corner where work and relaxation coexist. The dining sideboard also serves as a display platform for fragrances, collections, and daily objects. A round extendable dining table responds flexibly to both everyday use and social gatherings. The absence of a pendant light preserves greater freedom in spatial arrangement. Above the kitchen corridor, a curved ceiling subtly guides the flow of light, allowing the open-plan space to remain bright and gentle even without artificial lighting.
