Located on the B3 retail level of a major transit station, Dr. Hammer marks the brand’s first venture into a high-visibility environment. The store is conceived as a “medieval fortress,” transforming the narrative world of Warhammer into a tangible architectural experience that reframes how display, teaching, and brand interaction unfold within a model shop.
The design draws from the architectural language of historical fortifications—stone masonry, timber bracing, diagonal struts, and traditional Z-shaped doors. Two types of mushroom stone with varying thicknesses were meticulously interwoven using T-joint staggering, on-site layout, and piece-by-piece placement to recreate the authentic depth and weight of stone construction. Timber strips and rugged textures echo the structures of ancient castles, allowing the historical narrative to seamlessly enter a contemporary retail context.
Spatial choreography centers on a sense of discovery: a reception counter anchors the entrance, followed by an open display zone, while the rear accommodates discreet staff functions and a modeling classroom. Semi-shielded glazing provides visual separation without interrupting flow. Custom modular fixtures—including hanging racks, angled displays, and low island shelves—allow products to be presented with clarity and immediacy.
Completed within an ambitious three-week design-build schedule, the project also navigated strict fire-safety rules, height limitations, and the logistical challenges of underground construction. The resulting environment resembles a fragment lifted from a fantasy narrative—solid yet warm, fantastical yet highly functional—offering hobby enthusiasts a place to explore, create, and belong.
