The project involved the transformation of a four-story aging residence. With the homeowner's passion for outdoor pursuits and the family's long-term living needs in mind, the design began with a clear priority: function. Carefully restructured the spatial layout while preserving the building’s original framework. Utilities—including plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and gas lines—were comprehensively upgraded and discreetly integrated. Custom carpentry was paired with modular cabinets to deliver the utmost value within limited space and budget.
At the heart of the design lies a guiding principle: functionality internalized; emotion expressed. Blending elements from Nordic, humanistic, and minimalist aesthetics, the process also embraced the homeowner’s hands-on involvement, allowing the home’s character to take shape through shared effort and personal narrative. Every detail reflects a considered response to the needs of daily life, and a quiet tribute to the idea of home.
The home is fully equipped with intelligent systems, allowing lighting and appliances to be controlled remotely. A concealed distribution panel skillfully presents a clutter-free perception. The ceilings feature soft, indirect lighting, casting a warm glow that gently outlines each area, striking a subtle balance between practicality and aesthetics. These small, deliberate touches reflect a long-term perspective on living, where light moves with time, and the warmth of home is felt in every shift of shadow.
Tailored to the homeowner’s lifestyle, the basement level was redesigned as a hybrid zone, combining parking with a private workspace for quiet focus and personal projects. The moment the car pulls in, one step directly into this dedicated area, where work and life flow effortlessly into each other. A simple glance toward the parked vehicle serves as a quiet moment of reward amid the day’s tasks.
A compact bathroom offers convenience for quick refreshment between comings and goings, supporting a fluid, fast-paced rhythm of daily living. Storage walls with perforated pegboard panels provide adaptable organization, replacing rigid cabinetry with a system that can shift and grow. Whether tools, gear, or supplies, everything has its place, making room for structure and spontaneity.
