Interior Design of Mencius Research Institute

The design aims to carry forward the architecture itself as a way to create a Mencius Research institute in the new era featured by the combination between political ethics education and culture research with the idea of Admiration, Dialogue, Edification and Unity of Knowledge and Action.
This project is located in an area with gradually increasing in the north-south height difference, Hujia mountain with historical and culture significance as the main axis of landscape, the architectural design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural mountain and water features, showing a solemn sense of ceremonial architecture and the free and dynamic layout of traditional Chinese garden. The building covers an area of 44,200 square meters with reasonable and orderly functional layout.
The design utilizes the form of textual seals in the space, inscribing the Confucianism that Mencius is admired by people in the whole China. By shaping the light and shadow on the main architecture, the space is endowed with vitality, the subtle changes in light and shadow create a sense of solemn ritual for space and emphasize the spiritual and commemorative essence of the spare. The pure and tranquil environment can produce more resonance and shock with the visitors
The whole design aims to set the tone of exhibition visiting with admiration and respect, dialogue and edification by using stunning visual effects, to realize the creation of new type of institute integrating with Confucian tradition and the spirit of times. The long-standing culture gives the design idea of oriental artistic conception, which makes the preface hall become the courtyard with the spirit of heaven and earth. a multi-dimensional exhibition space integrated with the Viewing Mencius, Knowing Mencius, Learning Mencius, and Practicing Confucianism are created to inspire visitors. The design is intended to realize the concept of a new type of institute that integrates Confucian tradition with the spirit of the times.
