Specially designed for a young lady executive returning to Shanghai, this project ingeniously integrates three natural elements, including seashells, jadeite, and amber, into its forms, colors and details, aiming to pay homage to charming Eastern women and offering a warm, comfortable home living experience.
The use of seashells, jadeite, and amber highlights women's toughness, grace, and resilience. Both of the door and the bed back wall for the master bedroom subtly combine three types of wood to realize a unique wave-like design, bringing to mind the seashells’ edge details symbolizing calmness, pureness, and sincerity; the large jadeite-colored persimmon calyx pattern applied to the floor of the entrance hall, and the jadeite-colored sculptures, represents harmony, grace, and balance; the subtle pattern on the brass front door resembles the mottled texture seen in amber under sunlight, exuding healing warmth and optimism. These together create a unique space that fully embodies the tender but resilient characteristics of modern lady.
The overall design, taking into account the homeowner's journey from abroad back to her roots, reinterprets traditional Eastern materials in an original, modern manner. The project incorporates many unique standing screen installations inspired by palm leaf fans (a traditional cultural element of Shanghai), wall protection panels featuring relief with Shikumen architecture (a traditional style of architecture found in Shanghai), etc., which, through the combination of traditional culture and regional characteristics, showcases profound cultural significance and evokes emotional resonance. In terms of craftsmanship and materials, the designer has integrated Burmese teak wood and manually quarried stone embedded with crystal glass, to achieve the collision and fusion of tradition and modernity, thus enhancing the uniqueness and quality of the overall new aesthetic home space. The project perfectly aligns with the owner’s preference and her understanding of a beautiful home.
