The project is located in Dongcheng District, Beijing, China, which is rich in historical and cultural heritage. The aim is to create an ideal living place, with shady courtyards that shield from the hustle and bustle, creating a unique sanctuary. The design incorporates a subtle and sophisticated street interface, isolating the external noise and creating a modern oriental, natural ecological courtyard space internally.
The main entrance measures approximately 35 meters long, combining the extensive use of Angola black leather and intertwining with bronze metal curtains to create a deep and prestigious atmosphere. Access to the main entrance is by appointment only, and it features a meticulously crafted hidden sliding door made of copper, which not only serves its functional purpose but also enhances its artistic value. Inside the entrance, there are three VIP parking spaces and a reception area designed in a hotel-style,showcasing a sense of understated luxury.
The light and shadow corridor draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese bamboo weaving technique, using innovative materials such as purple copper. By interweaving the metal curtains with the texture of bamboo weaving, the design achieves a simple and artistic form while exuding a sense of luxury in terms of texture. The designer compared six different forms of bamboo weaving and ultimately selected the current interlacing pattern through a 1:1 paper printout. After several rounds of optimization, this design is the most comfortable and provides the best projection of light and shadows. It is also an effort made to ensure a better quality for future residents.
As you gradually follow the garden path, you step into a place that captures the essence of Oriental gardens. With different sceneries gracing each of the four seasons, you can experience peak tranquility during spring and summer. The vibrant colored maple trees catch the eye in autumn and winter. Meanwhile, the irregular arrangement of hemispherical lower shrubs and moss landscaping ensures that even in winter, the garden doesn’t appear bleak or boring. Turning the corner, you encounter a waterfall installation made of black gold sand, inspired by natural waterfalls, creating a waterscape wall as if you are in the midst of mountain waterfalls.
