Rooted in the flying apsaras mural of Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, this piece of jewelry draws on the image of apsaras dancing in mid-air while playing the pipa in reverse, celebrating Eastern aesthetics and encouraging cultural confidence.
Its overall silhouette, flying apsaras composition, and pattern arrangement are all original. The flowing sleeves of flying apsaras in the murals are reinterpreted into a crescent-shaped choker, retaining an Eastern aesthetic. The piece is also refined to follow the natural curves of the neck and shoulders, making it lighter and more fitting. In this way, it moves beyond the traditional role of art pieces as objects of display and integrates into everyday life as a wearable accessory. The posture of the flying apsaras, flowing sleeves, and the contour of the choker echo one another, infusing the static jewelry with dynamism. Traditional elements such as Dunhuang cloud motifs, intertwined floral patterns, and yunjian (cloud-collar) structures are subtly incorporated.
