Situated in Yunlin, a region defined by agricultural production, the residence responds to the rhythmic cycles of the local rice industry. The architectural program translates the family's agrarian roots into a learning-focused environment, establishing a vertical community for three generations. At the core of this transition is an eight-meter vertical library rising through the central void. This structural element functions as the primary spatial interface, marking a shift from manual labor to intellectual cultivation. By allocating significant floor area on the second level to this vertical volume, the design prioritizes psychological scale over spatial maximization, creating a dedicated environment that integrates reading into the daily domestic routine for the younger lineage.
Upon entry, a monumental screen of natural stone serves as a visual anchor, establishing a threshold that separates the external environment from the domestic realm before the circulation splits into a T-shaped layout. This configuration directs movement toward shared spaces while preserving privacy for individual quarters. In the main living area, a sunken floor configuration establishes a distinct structural rhythm, creating a sense of enclosure without utilizing physical partitions. This topographical shift maintains visual continuity with the public zones while grounding the seating area.
Adjacent to the living zone, the dining program is augmented by a bespoke circular table integrated with heating elements, specifically configured to support communal hotpot gatherings. This feature transcends functionality, acting as a social instrument that reinforces family cohesion through shared culinary rituals. A modern neoclassical logic is adopted, where symmetrical arrangements provide order to the expansive volume. Locally processed stone and refined metal lattices are employed to reinterpret historical motifs, translating the family's industrious background into tangible material textures. Fourteen rooms are distributed across five levels, organized to balance collective interaction with individual autonomy, ensuring the residence functions cohesively for the multi-generational household.
