This project responds to the lifestyle needs of urban residents in Beijing, using modern minimalism as the foundation while integrating natural textures and subtle light-luxury details. The design aims to create a residence that is “simple yet warm, luxurious yet understated,” balancing spatial openness with tactile warmth. Guided by the concept of reshaping space through light and shadow while enhancing atmosphere through materials, the design restores a sense of comfort and refinement within contemporary living.
The spatial layout breaks down conventional barriers by adopting an open-plan arrangement that integrates the living, dining, and kitchen areas. This approach maximizes the perception of spaciousness in the public zones while strengthening daily interaction among family members. Private areas such as bedrooms and study rooms are organized through gentle spatial transitions, allowing a smooth shift from active social spaces to quiet personal environments. Large surfaces of natural light are introduced into the central circulation areas, ensuring that the public zones remain bright, transparent, and highly functional, while private areas use softer materials and integrated storage systems to create a calm and enveloping atmosphere.
Warm-toned wood veneer forms the primary base of the space, introducing natural warmth that softens the coolness often associated with modern design. In the living area, a marble feature wall becomes a visual focal point, creating a contrast between solid stone textures and the softness of fabric sofas and upholstered elements. Matte metals, glass, and slab materials are incorporated in selected areas, enriching the spatial composition through subtle textural contrasts while maintaining a unified palette.
The color scheme centers on off-white, light gray, and warm brown tones, establishing a calm and soothing visual environment. Dark wood finishes and fine black lines provide contrast and structure, while touches of caramel tones and artworks introduce warmth and vitality.
Lighting is designed without a traditional central fixture, using layered combinations of linear lighting, concealed light strips, and track spotlights to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Together with filtered natural light, the lighting system forms a soft and atmospheric environment that supports both daily living and moments of quiet retreat.
