Fantasy Wonderland of Ink & Color is an art education exhibition designed especially for children, featuring ink and "Gouache" paintings from the local collection. By integrating art appreciation with hands-on creative experiences, the exhibition introduces traditional painting in a playful yet educational way, inspiring children’s curiosity and understanding. Through interactive design and digital guidance, young visitors are encouraged to explore art from their own perspectives, participate in creation, and build an emotional connection with local culture.
Most of the exhibited works are by prominent calligraphers and painters from the region. The themes include landscapes, flowers and birds, figures, and local scenery, spanning styles from traditional expressive ink painting to modern exploration. Together, the works demonstrate how ink and mineral pigment painting have evolved through time and cultural exchange, reflecting the diversity of Hsinchu’s artistic heritage.
The ink painting section highlights the essence of classical Chinese brushwork, such as tonal variation, the balance between emptiness and solidity, and rhythmic brush movement. With its abstract and expressive qualities, ink painting offers artists great creative freedom, allowing images to convey not only nature but also inner states of mind. In contrast, “Gouache” painting draws from Asian painting traditions, using layered mineral pigments to create richly colored and delicate visual effects.
The exhibition emphasizes participation and experience, particularly for children. Structured around four dimensions—viewing, experiencing, creating, and playing—it transforms art from something merely observed into a journey of active engagement. Interactive zones allow children to experiment with basic calligraphy and painting techniques, helping them understand artistic logic and expression.
A free-creation space encourages children to work with ink and pigments without being limited by technique or style, exploring emotion and imagination freely. Digital technology further enriches the experience through an interactive digital painting wall, where images come alive at a touch. The “Fantasy Puzzle Room” adds playful challenges that integrate observation, art knowledge, and family participation.
More than an exhibition, Fantasy Wonderland of Ink & Color is an artistic gateway for children—guiding them from observation to creation, nurturing creativity, and fostering a deeper connection with art and the city they inhabit.
