Located in Zhongshan District, Taipei, the 165.2 square meters newly completed apartment is home to two residents. The hostess prefers a rational and crisp modern style, clearly defining black, white, and gray as the primary palette, while incorporating mirrored surfaces and large tiles to create an intellectual and pure atmosphere.
Beginning with the longitudinal layout, the designer organized spatial order through linear elements and precise material proportions. Within a cool gray base, natural stone textures and the warmth of textiles are preserved, allowing rationality and livability to coexist.
The living and dining areas adopt an open-plan configuration. The TV wall was originally fragmented due to dual door circulation paths. To resolve this, the designer integrated concealed doors into the elevation, embedding the door panels within the stone wall to reestablish a clear visual focal point.
Light gray textured large tiles define the main feature wall. Linear façade elements and vertical grilles elongate proportions, enhancing the depth of the longitudinal layout.
Partial ceiling recesses, combined with black framing and mirrored edging, precisely delineate boundaries. Without adding partitions, the living and dining functions are clearly distinguished. A metal circular pendant light becomes a visual focus within the black recessed ceiling, reflecting layered light and shadow throughout the space.
At the entrance and dining cabinet, linear and indirect lighting glide along stone surfaces, revealing their natural textures. The dining cabinet integrates electrical appliances, using gray system panels and aluminum-framed glass doors to maintain consistency between function and elevation. In the private area, curved finishing softens structural beams, forming a contrast with the linear order of the social area and achieving a balance between rigidity and softness.
