The project is based on the historical establishment of the Protectorate of the Western Regions during the Western Han Dynasty, divided into five thematic sections. It presents the political, economic, cultural, and religious development of the Western Regions from the pre-Qin period to the Ming and Qing dynasties, relying on 463 sets of cultural relics and archaeological findings.
Innovative design approaches are employed, including sunken real-scene restoration and digital immersive experience zones. Visitors can engage in a simulated archaeological experience through a recreation of the ancient Zor Kultepa City. Scale models of ancient beacon towers and Silk Road post stations are displayed with dynamic projection technology, providing an immersive journey through history. Digital and physical exhibits are seamlessly integrated to create a balance between narrative coherence and modern technology.
The design incorporates multimedia technologies such as digital images, holographic projection, and projection mapping, enhancing visitor interaction with physical relics. The exhibition adopts a clear narrative logic and intuitive display methods, allowing visitors to perceive historical progress and absorb core historical information efficiently.
Aesthetic expressions are derived from Han Dynasty architectural styles and Western Regions cultural symbols. Abstract representations of city walls and beacon towers, along with composite stone and metal structures, convey a strong historical presence. The design balances Han-style elements with modern exhibition language, addressing the unique climate and geography of Xinjiang through durable materials such as composite glazed materials and local stone that are sand- and temperature-resistant.
The project emphasizes the historical importance of Xinjiang as an inseparable part of China, promoting cultural integration and fostering historical awareness. It also serves as a platform for international cross-cultural communication, showcasing China’s border governance and cultural heritage. By blending immersive digital experiences with physical exhibits, it creates a rhythmical visiting experience that deeply engages visitors with the region's rich history.
