The team takes "A Stroll in the Garden, a Startling Dream" as the narrative core, aiming to create a personalized spatial and bodily experience.

The spatial layout follows a garden-style landscape as the main thread, using traditional garden techniques such as borrowing and revealing views, so that façades, screens, and components collectively form a series of continuous and rhythmical visual compositions. Each functional area interpenetrates and dialogues with the others through these components, creating a dynamic flow of constantly changing scenes.

We closely examined the Cantonese cultural background of the restaurant—a unique blend of East and West. In this project, Eastern and Western aesthetics reconstruct the formal language and merge again, bridging the gap between Oriental charm and modernity.

This concept is dramatized in the circulation design. The connection between the upper and lower floors is treated as a two-stage scene transition: the public area unfolds along a relaxed, garden-like promenade, with stone flooring and strategically placed ornamental rocks; then, a geometrically-shaped, enclosed brass staircase enters the space, becoming a threshold connecting reality with dreams. It not only completes the physical vertical connection but, through strong contrasts in material and form, suggests the transition of the experience from the open and shared "stroll in the garden" to the intimate and personal "startling dream."

"A Stroll in the Garden, a Startling Dream" originates from Tang Xianzu's "The Peony Pavilion," referring to the inner awakening triggered by encountering sublime beauty and the emotional climax reached in a dream. This project transforms this literary imagery into a spatial poetics that can be walked through and experienced.
