The piece draws inspiration from the Eastern mythical hybrid creature Pixiu. By drawing on the lively expressions of Jade Pixiu of the Han Dynasty, the piece breathes new life into the ancient mythical creature for contemporary wearers through modern design language and fine jewelry craftsmanship.
Unlike traditional static jewelry, the Pixiu comes alive as a guardian for the wearer with dynamic interactive details. The Pixiu’s round eyes use openwork enamel and frosted mirror finish and operate through a gravity-lever mechanism, allowing the eyes to open and close with the wearer’s movement, symbolizing “eyes open to attract wealth, eyes closed to safeguard wealth.” The ingot-shaped ears feature a rebound structure responding to touch, adding fun. Two large gold cash coins are joined using clamping technique. The one at the bottom can rotate 360 degrees, forming a “wealth in hand” gesture. It also subtly conveys the auspicious meaning of “earning great wealth with ease,” embodying the Eastern aesthetic of drawing in wealth and safeguarding fortune.
To further elevate its refined appeal, the large gold cash coin is set with five sky-blue sapphires as the main stones, each carefully matched for clarity, color, cut, and size, showcasing exceptional purity and dazzling brilliance. A concealed setting technique is employed to achieve a seamless join between the stones while perfectly hiding the metal structure, allowing the multi-faceted gems to reflect light uniformly. The sky-blue sapphires interlace with surrounding diamond halos, creating a luxurious, dynamic visual effect with flowing radiance. The piece is handmade using filigree and silk-grain engraving techniques. Fine gold threads outline the Pixiu’s lively contours like embroidery, while delicate carving defines its facial structure and soft fur—giving the piece lifelike vitality and a smooth handfeel.
