The convent of San Pablo in Valladolid was founded in 1276 From 1445 the Hispano-Flemish architects Juan Guas and Simón de Colonia. XVII century, Diego de Praves, Juan de Nates and Francisco de Mora. The interior restoration replaces the stained glass windows, installed in 1961, with new stained glass windows (equipped with an air chamber and anti-condensation ventilation) made of leaded cathedral glass, rescuing the original situation of the apse bathed in natural light. The frame (removable) supports the interior stained glass window and the anti-vandal exterior leaf, with continuous air renewal between the two, such as the thermoformed glass of the cathedral of Tours, by the architect Arnaud St-Jouan.
The design provides a discreet image, alluding to the church and the Order, since the original stained glass window is not known. The symbolism is that of the Dominican Fathers: the flowered cross, the dog with the torch that illuminates the actions of Saint Dominic and the star that represents the guide between all the planets. This image is present in the interior vault of the alcove of the church of San Pablo.
The polychromy of the glass is not homogeneous, but is related to the amount of light in each orientation and direct sunlight. In this way, three states are distinguished, in a clear metaphorical allusion to the solar phases: in the north and northeast orientation, whiter tones were used to represent "the dawn"; in the central area, east, the pink tones stand out in reference to "the dawn", the daughter of the morning, the one with the pinkish fingers (Homer); and in the positions of the south, south and southeast, with evolution towards the apogee of the sun (the sun "invictus" of Mithras), collecting the tradition and the general, cultural, Christian-religious and theological knowledge of the Dominican O. P.
Artificial lighting is installed inside, with LED lights on the sides of the lower openings of the apse, which are blinded and polychrome with medieval paintings (around the thirteenth century), recreating the interior environment of the apse illuminated by all the openings, in a homogeneous image of the whole
