The design thoughtfully employs the interplay of different materials and their light-transmitting qualities to create a home of nuanced richness and depth. At the entryway, a ribbed glass screen framed in black steel stands as a soft yet striking focal point—its translucent texture elegantly defines the threshold of the interior while ensuring privacy within. In the living area, the light-gray L-shaped sofa echoes the tone of the dining sideboard, achieving a refined chromatic balance against the warmth of the wood flooring. Reserved the blank wall behind the sofa as a gallery zone for displaying collected artworks. At the same time, the birch plywood frames the bay window beside it, becoming a natural picture frame for the shifting light and scenery outdoors. United by the glow of indirect lighting, these elements compose a calm, airy, and gently luminous social space infused with the warmth of daily life.
To accommodate the homeowner’s passion for reading, writing, and home exercise, the design team applied a philosophy of subtraction to reshape the layout. The designer subsequently divided the original four bedrooms and a study into three bedrooms and one multifunctional room, with partitions removed to create a more open public area with greater visual continuity. The new multifunctional room features custom wooden sliding doors. When open, they extend the living space into a bright and comfortable area for reading and working out. When closed, they transform into a private guest room, ensuring a secure and private space for solitude or family gatherings across generations.
Both the master and guest bathrooms feature a three-zone configuration, separating the vanity, toilet, and shower, allowing multiple users to use them simultaneously without interference. Considering aging-in-place needs, grab bars are installed in the bathrooms for safety. The kitchen is equipped with an induction cooktop, upgraded storage hardware, and smart home appliances, including a robot vacuum, a filtered drinking system, and a washer-dryer combo. These discreet technologies lighten daily chores and integrate comfort quietly into everyday living, creating a fluid and efficient environment that reflects the design team’s focus on spatial harmony and human-centered interaction.
