Compact Brilliance

Compact Brilliance is the personal residence of a designer couple, conceived as a living laboratory. Within just 20 ping (approx. 66 m²), they reconfigured the layout and integrated a smart-home system—typically reserved for large-scale residences—to create a compact family home for two adults and one child. The design balances efficiency and aesthetics, proving that small-scale living can be both comfortable and forward-looking.

Rejecting the prevailing trend of light-toned interiors, the project embraces a darker palette that conveys calm and refinement. Expanded public areas allow the child to play freely in the living room while parents work nearby in a semi-open study and dining space, weaving family interaction seamlessly into daily life.

The design details highlight craftsmanship and experimentation: hidden arched doors redefine conventional forms, a TV wall finished in metallic-effect plaster adds depth, and custom stone-effect coatings enrich the dining area. Storage is integrated throughout—from a movable dining table with built-in bench cabinetry to concealed wiring behind the sofa—ensuring practicality without clutter. Bedrooms reflect individual character: the master bedroom remains serene with daylight and abstract plaster finishes, while the child’s room adopts bright hues, a magnetic wall, and flexible study space.

Sustainability is also central. Low-formaldehyde panels, water-based paints, carbonized-wood partitions, and factory-prefabricated cabinetry reduce environmental impact. Natural light and ventilation shape a healthy urban home, while smart-home systems manage lighting and appliances to optimize energy use.

Compact Brilliance demonstrates how a modest residence can embody innovation, sustainability, and personal expression—offering a new model for urban living that is compact in scale yet expansive in possibility.
