This project presents a handcrafted model documented through multiple photographic perspectives and reinterpreted as a form of digital sculptural art. Each image extends the physical qualities of the model into a heightened visual field, allowing its material presence to resonate through color, light, and layered distortion.
The stair, a once rhythmic directional interface, no longer links levels, bodies, or meaning in the digital age. The weight of the simulation erodes its recent clarity. The resulting floating shapes, semi-transparent gradients, and mirrored images dissolve into a fragmented index of purpose. The stair is reframed in this project as a systemic failure, the remnant of architecture that has been rewritten by code rather than as a function.
Frosty surfaces, distorted reflections, and LED-lit pieces are used to render this fractured field. Every step, modern, pattern, pixel, and algorithm are half-existent stains in simulated time and handmade fragments that resist illusions of smooth movement. "404: Stair Not Found" indicates the misalignment of the object with both physical direction and digital translation. The stair is directed, yet not detected, rewritten but not moved.
This handmade model critiques modern spatial protocols where architectural presence is displaced by algorithmic repetition and simulation. The stair loses its temporal and bodily weight as it becomes an image that cannot be used. Once a measure of vertical movement, it is now reduced to a static signal caught between spatial forgetfulness and algorithmic recursion.
The project examines the conflict between physical movement and simulation, infrastructure and illusion, and presence and absence. It reflects rather than directs. It steps rather than rises. In this case, systems that shape but no longer serve are revealed by architecture that defies utility.
This is a mirror to a state when movement turns into metaphor and direction fails, not a stairway to a higher level. By turning the stairs’ broken code into an architectural error message, "404: Stair Not Found" invites us to stand still in liminality. It asks what remains of architecture when direction collapses.
