In A Cocooned Delicate Chamber, I explore the tension between protection and vulnerability, intimacy and invasion. The work draws inspiration from the organic architecture of silkworm cocoons—spaces that are inherently fragile yet serve as protective enclosures. These delicate, white chambers offer a sense of warmth, security, and isolation, much like a sanctuary. However, this sanctuary is not permanent. It is subject to external forces that flatten, compress, and ultimately rupture its form.

The process of pressing, crushing, and deforming these once-intact enclosures reflects the inevitable disruption of personal space and safety. The cocoon, a symbol of transformation and shelter, is distorted, stripped of its original function, and forced into a state of compromise. The visual tension between soft, organic forms and the act of destruction speaks to broader themes of intrusion, displacement, and the fragility of comfort.

The project also evokes the imagery of bubble cocoons—temporary, ephemeral shelters that exist on the verge of collapse. Bubbles, much like cocoons, enclose and protect, yet they are inherently fleeting, easily punctured, and dissolved. This duality mirrors the delicate balance between security and uncertainty in human existence.

By engaging with materiality, spatial compression, and the breaking of boundaries, A Cocooned Delicate Chamber invites viewers to question the limits of safety and the inevitability of external pressure. What happens when our most intimate spaces are no longer inviolable? How do we navigate the erosion of comfort? Through this work, I seek to capture that moment of transformation—the instant when a sanctuary is breached, and what was once whole is now irreversibly altered.
