This interactive installation was featured in the New Year-Welcoming Exhibition of Folk Art at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) from December 27, 2024, to February 19, 2025. Designed to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, the piece reimagines the beauty and cultural significance of traditional Chinese butterfly kites in the digital era.
By combining advanced hand-tracking technology with a game engine, the installation allows visitors to control the movement of the kites through intuitive hand gestures, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
The work evokes both wonder and nostalgia, celebrating the craftsmanship and historical depth of Chinese folk art while highlighting its cultural legacy. At the same time, it explores how technology can transform the way we engage with and perceive traditional art, encouraging reflection on the evolving relationship between heritage and innovation.
