Urban Roaming

This project is located in the Central District of Taichung City, Taiwan, focusing on the revitalization of an old building in the old town. Drawing inspiration from the concept of "Urban Roaming," our aim is to create a space where one can wander around amidst the urban landscape.

The space was originally an abandoned single-story warehouse. We endeavored to deconstruct its spatial structure and reconfigured its spatial order. The long rectangular street house has been therefore reinterpreted as different areas combined with an expansive sky living room, an urban corner for afternoon chit-chats, a serene bedroom, and a refined bathing area.

To present an urban feel, black and gray color scheme were chosen for the overall space. By introducing window views and sunlight, the urban ambiance permeates and blends seamlessly from the outside in. Roaming from the tranquil and low-key bedroom area, we walk through a corridor and a tea break corner both with a street-like atmosphere, and finally step into the brightest cloud-like living room The space is, from deep to shallow, from dark to bright, resembles a leisurely stroll through the streets, full of fun and comfort.

From the aspect of the design form, the wall and the floor shows an urban modern style by the use of black and gray color scheme, the cement texture and clean geometric lines. As for the ceiling, curves and LED strip lights were incorporated ingeniously as if a cloud in the sky, spacious and liberating.

"Urban Roaming" signifies the co-creation of a living space with the city where the urban environment and the residential space interact with each other. In the dialogue with the old house and the old town, we aspire to create a resonance between the interior space and the external environment. Moreover than that, it is hoped that residents could stroll within and enjoy the comfortable and relaxed lifestyle.
