This project focuses on the transformative renovation of a gas station nestled within a traditional Hakka village. The original structure was stark and uninspiring, characterized by a bland, standardized appearance that prioritized functionality over aesthetics, primarily offering fueling and restroom services. Recognizing the need for a revitalized corporate image, CPC Corporation, Taiwan, sought to break free from the outdated perceptions of their brand, often associated with conservatism and stagnation. To fulfill the owner's ambitious vision, the designer adopted a compelling concept rooted in the essence of the local community, skillfully weaving in the characteristics of the residents' farming heritage into the architectural design. The result is a gas station that transcends its primary function, emerging as a vibrant hub that reflects the ingenuity and beauty of the surrounding environment. This innovative approach not only enhances the visual appeal of the gas station but also strengthens the owner's competitive position in the market, showcasing a commitment to community and design that resonates with both locals and travelers alike. The gas station is distinguished by its toll booths, offices, kiosks, and business houses, all crafted using the traditional Taiwanese building technique known as “12-inch bricks.” This enchanting architectural choice not only evokes a nostalgic and elegant ambiance but also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Taiwan. Moreover, the public restroom features a uniquely designed wash basin that takes the form of a farm machinery “blower.” This creative design adds an intriguing visual element while simultaneously embodying the enduring spirit of the local countryside—one that is simple, industrious, and grounded in the values of hard work. This thoughtful attention to detail ensures that visitors are not merely passing through but are immersed in a narrative that pays homage to Taiwan's vibrant traditions and rural life. Through a meticulous and innovative design transformation, this gas station has evolved from a mere standardized facility into a vibrant hub that reflects the unique character of the local community. Beyond its primary function of refueling, the thoughtfully crafted space invites visitors to enjoy immaculate public restrooms and explore a well-stocked convenience store, blending practicality with aesthetic appeal.
