GARAGE, situated on the B1 floor of Poly Theatre in Shenzhen's bustling commercial hub, is a non-standard themed complex centered around vintage modified cars. Transforming the original car park, it revolves around the "Special Vehicle Exchange Centre," interpreting garage culture in the Greater Bay Area and engaging with vintage car lifestyles. Amenities include vintage car exhibitions, trading, beauty and maintenance, tuning, accessories retail, car culture curation, and a cigar and coffee club.
Retro-futurism is the main DNA of the space, blending the past and future through vintage cultural tiles, oxidised brass hardware, old shop gates, and American neon signs, creating an underground car culture vibe from the early 18th century. UFO-shaped gas stations and silver materials depict the future.
The design uses a Hollywood film narrative, featuring a tuned car and underground trading empire. Modified car parties, skateboarding, graffiti, underground music, black market trading, and bars revolve around the film's modified car underworld atmosphere. The space is divided into three levels: an entrance driveway, main commercial street, and used car trading area, corresponding to different storyline characters.
As the first vintage garage complex in the Greater Bay Area, GARAGE explores localized cultural practices, catering to Shenzhen's youthful and global population. It offers a car-mediated vault for specialty classic and modified cars, immersing customers in the storyline and helping them forget work stress.
The taxi stand features a large illuminated round fixture inspired by U.S. flying saucer-shaped gas stations, while the underground cafe, designed next to the car wash and maintenance shop, offers a retro cinema feel. Customers can see their car care status while enjoying coffee in a space with a vinyl record section and separate cigar space.
The underground car accessories shop boasts a wide range of accessories and a vintage watch repair shop, sending a shock of vintage and premium vibes. The car washroom is inspired by Chicago buildings, with black vintage tiles, grey walls, and Art Deco atmosphere. The car tuning room, inspired by the film "Back to the Future," presents an illusion of traveling into the future.
