During our course of design research, we found that most of the activities kids do today are directed towards building a finished product. This takes away focus from the problem they are actually trying to solve and diverts all their energy into ‘Googling’ for a found solution. To resolve this core issue, we look into spatial elements that aims to inspire kids to be intuitive, recognize patterns, and ideate thoughts that are emotionally meaningful as well as functional. Our immediate environment is the biggest influence affecting our emotions and train of thoughts; our subconscious mind constantly absorbs and analyzes everything and that is all determined by spatial design.
Our design concept then is to create an environment that inspires young minds while nurturing a deeper level of emotional intuition.
The design strategy is to explore a childcare space that not only well compliments Mulberry’s class curriculums; but also aspires to inspire kid’s mind through positive conditioning for growth and excellence. As children learns best through tactile senses and movement, it becomes essential for intellectual growth. Hence, our built environment is designed to nudge the kids to make use of their sense of touch to explore the various surfaces and materiality. When we feel something, we gather multiple informative cues about objects around us. Nature driven spatial forms and colour palette creates a harmonious blend that tap upon kid’s subconscious mind to explore and be inquisitive. The open ‘landscape’ promotes interaction between kids allowing them pick up on social ques and understanding empathy.
