The key desire of the client was to achieve a stylish exterior design that stands out even in a densely populated residential area, creating a memorable first impression. Additionally, an important aspect was to design an integrated bicycle parking area within the housing complex, ensuring that it does not detract from the overall aesthetic.
In this plan, the residential volume is divided into four sections using five white plates, giving the building a distinctive look. The volume placed at the forefront is precisely the "bicycle parking area." By aligning the slit openings here with the slit windows of the living spaces and harmonizing their proportions, we have enhanced the sense of unity in the design.
The front facade is clad in high-texture wood-grain siding to enrich its expression, which is framed by the side walls (plates) featuring a delicate ribbed pattern in white siding, creating a refined ambiance through a vivid contrast with the wood siding. Careful planning of the proportions of openings, which define the character of the residence, visibly
distinguishes the functionality of the front facade as the "face" of the house and the side plates as protective walls that "cut off" sightlines.
At the center of the building, a double-height living, dining, and kitchen area (LDK) is planned alongside an alcove-like courtyard. The full-open sash windows seamlessly integrate this space with the exterior, meticulously designed to serve as an intermediate zone that blends indoor and outdoor environments.
Surrounded by closely packed single-family homes and exposed to the busy front road, the planning of the entrance was crucial. Rather than placing the entrance directly facing the front road as usual, we designed a long approach along the property boundary with the entrance on the side. This strategy intentionally shields the entrance from unwanted external sightlines, enhancing privacy and exclusivity.
