ORIGIN

This sofa is for one person and swings comfortably. Many conventional sofas are heavy and inconvenient to carry. Therefore, in addition to sitting and swaying comfortably, consideration was given to reducing weight and saving resources during production. To this end, the size and shape of the holes were designed in consideration of structural mechanics, and the shape was designed while verifying the swinging with a 1/1-scale cardboard model. When carrying the product, it can be moved by one person while shaking it, and the holes act as handles to make it easy to carry.

I started by thinking about what it is that makes people feel so comfortable that they lose track of time, and incorporating this into my designs. There are many factors that make people feel comfortable, including external elements such as smell, sound, warmth and light. Rocking is one of these factors. There are a wide range of moments when people feel comfortable with rocking, such as the rocking of a train, a rocking cradle, a hammock or when floating in the sea or a swimming pool. The reason why we feel comfortable with rocking may be because we have subconscious memories of the rocking we felt in the womb, which are recalled and create a sense of security.
One of my own pleasant subconscious memories is of my childhood, sitting in a rocking chair and rocking slowly in the sunlight. Inspired by this memory, I designed a rocking sofa that can be used in a more relaxed position.
