THE ONE, Shanghai

Located in Shanghai, the project draws inspiration from its lakeside setting and local cultural context, while embracing a contemporary, understated French aesthetic, creating a living environment where architecture, nature, and everyday life harmoniously intertwine. Rather than replicating French motifs, the design seeks a subtle balance between Eastern restraint and French elegance—cultivating a refined international sensibility while infusing the space with a quiet warmth rooted in place.
“Nature permeates everyday life” is the guiding principle throughout the design. The lakeside landscape is gently drawn into the interior, where open spaces, fluid circulation, and the shifting play of light and shadow soften the boundary between indoors and out. The rhythms of the changing seasons become part of everyday living, cultivating a quiet sense of serenity and poetry.
The material palette is grounded in the calming texture of natural stone and the tactile warmth of timber veneers, complemented by refined French-style moldings and precise edging detailing. Through the interplay of solidity and void, weight and lightness, strength and softness, the interior unfolds with a nuanced sense of depth and layering.
Soft furnishings lend the space a sense of warmth and ease. A matte leather sofa evokes effortless French elegance, while the subtly creased linen retains crafted warmth. A handwoven rug marks the quiet ritual of homecoming, and an amber glass pendant filters light into a gentle glow. Raw stone sculptures and greenery subtly recall the leisurely charm of the southern French countryside. As light plays across different materials, every detail reveals a tactile authenticity and quiet vitality.
Beyond spatial form, the design centers on the emotional connection between people and place. Interweaving nature, art, and everyday life, it creates a home of quiet elegance and deep belonging—a sanctuary that carries memories, engages with nature, and nurtures the soul.
