Jiaheli Supermarket Design Description

"Long trapped in the cage, I return to nature again." — Tao Yuanming, Eastern Jin Dynasty, 'Returning to the Countryside, Part I'

This project takes the home under the eaves as the narrative core, drawing the form inspiration from traditional Eastern eaves and using mortise-and-tenon joinery to shape the space. It combines the solid mass and cultural depth of Eastern structures with a modern approach to create a light and transparent atmosphere. In the post-pandemic and economic slowdown era, young people have shed their complex material desires and pursue a relaxed, easygoing lifestyle, returning to simple meals and everyday routines. The design thus integrates the sense of belonging of an Eastern home into a commercial space.

Traditional eaves run throughout the entire space, with mortise-and-tenon order balancing Eastern charm and contemporary aesthetics. Some islands for fruits and vegetables feature LED screens to project sunlight filtering through leaves, conveying vitality and relaxation and creating a light vacation vibe that resonates with young people embracing daily life. Eastern brushstroke fonts are incorporated into the light and shadows, blending traditional culture with modern design.

Materials are carefully selected natural and eco-friendly options, including wooden panels, textured cement, matte stainless steel, and DuPont paper. These textures enhance a relaxed, healing atmosphere, aligning with young people's preference for health and nature. Designed for locally rooted consumers who love daily life, the supermarket becomes more than just a shopping place—it’s a city living scene where you can experience the seasons and unwind.
