This residence is home to a family of four. The homeowners wished to create a warm and interactive family environment, and the design therefore centers on the idea of “everyday togetherness,” giving the project the name “Dango Day.”
“Dango” symbolizes reunion and sharing, while “Day” represents calm and gentle days. The original layout featured a closed kitchen, which fragmented the social area. The designers reorganized the circulation so that family members’ daily routines converge within the same shared space. The overall style draws from a soft Japanese aesthetic, complemented by milky brown tones and wood textures, creating a warm, intimate home filled with the atmosphere of daily family life.
One of the most symbolic features of the home is the “message wall” located beside the dining table. Made from enamel panels, the wall functions both as a family memo board and a canvas for children’s drawings. Because the father works night shifts, family members often leave notes to communicate daily matters. Messages, reminders, and spontaneous sketches by the children gradually accumulate here, forming visible traces of time and family interaction.
Visually, the curved design of the ceiling and door openings introduces a soft spatial rhythm. The original structure contained a cross beam with a height of only about 2.3 meters, which could easily feel oppressive. The designers softened this condition through a curved ceiling treatment, transforming the structural beam into flowing lines that lighten the overall space. The doors continue the same rounded language, allowing the entire interior to maintain a gentle rhythm through its transitions.
In the private area, subtle design details are carefully integrated. The entrance to the master bedroom is defined by an aluminum-framed door that creates a transitional zone. Upon entering, one first arrives at the dressing area before proceeding into the sleeping area. This configuration allows the door to function both as the entry to the bedroom and as a partition for the walk-in closet, maintaining clear circulation and layered spatial organization within a limited floor area.
