This sofa, rooted in Eastern aesthetics and modern pursuit of comfort, infuses home living space with a touch of artistic elegance. It draws inspiration from the canopy bed depicted in Along the River during the Qingming Festival (a famous ancient painting in China), extracting its structural framework, straight-lattice motif, and symbolism of peace and protection to create a three-sided embracing form. This design preserves the visual language of classical furniture and establishes a psychologically comforting sanctuary imbued with a sense of security.
The surrounding panels, each made from a single piece of solid wood, employ the traditional Chinese “Luotang Caigu” technique—where the center rises slightly while the edges slope downward—and feature a classic frame-and-panel construction. This method avoids modern splicing or veneering, effectively preventing wood warping or cracking over time while suggesting premium quality and upscale position. The base introduces “Su Daoya Ban” (plain sabre-leg aprons) of the Southern Song dynasty, showcasing the charm of Eastern aesthetics and enhancing load-bearing capacity. Furthermore, the entire frame is connected using traditional mortise-and-tenon joints without a single metal screw, complemented by a solid plank seat, “Chuandai (cross-bracing battens),” and “Tuoni” (stabilizing mudsills), not only improving structural stability and durability but also highlighting the wisdom and refinement of traditional woodworking.
As for material selection, the frame is crafted from North American FAS-grade black walnut, prized for its elegant grain, warm touch, and robust structure. The upholstery system, by virtue of its triple-layer elastic support, precisely meets the needs of the head and neck, back and waist, and hips and thighs. The backrest combines support foam (28 kg/m3+30 kg/m3) with non-glue cotton to offer resilient support for the head. The bolster is filled with goose down, providing comfortable softness and closely fitting the lower back. The seat cushion integrates support foam (38 kg/m3+40 kg/m3), goose down, and non-glue cotton for an ideal balance between firmness and softness; paired with a generous seat depth of 55 cm, it delivers outstanding comfort whether users sit or recline. Additionally, the surface is available in top-grain cowhide leather, whose luxurious natural texture elevates the sofa’s overall sophistication.
