Kaohsiung’s urban development has long been supported by petrochemical and steel industries. To advance industrial transformation, the city has introduced TSMC to northern Kaohsiung as a core hub for semiconductor materials R&D, establishing a semiconductor industry corridor, while simultaneously promoting the “Kaohsiung Bay Area 2.0 Smart Technology Innovation Park” in southern Kaohsiung.
The Y15 Joint Development Project is located within the Kaohsiung Bay Area 2.0 Smart Technology Innovation Park. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., which has already invested in Kaohsiung’s electric vehicle industry, was selected as the preferred applicant and officially signed the agreement in December 2025. Through the Y15 project, Foxconn will introduce advanced sectors including AI, AR, Web 3.0, Internet of Vehicles, cloud computing, electric vehicles, and digital health, becoming a key component of the Kaohsiung Bay Area 2.0 industrial ecosystem.
The Kaohsiung Bay Area 2.0 Smart Technology Innovation Park Promotion Program covers a total area of approximately 43 hectares, representing a strategic upgrade of Kaohsiung’s existing achievements in 5G AIoT development. In response to the global 5G Internet of Things market, projected to reach USD 297.1 billion by 2030, the city aims to position the Kaohsiung Bay Area as a globally competitive industrial cluster and a key forward base for Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.
Located within this innovation park, the Y15 Joint Development Project possesses strong potential for international exchange. By introducing forward-looking industries—AI, AR, Web 3.0, Internet of Vehicles, cloud computing, electric vehicles, and digital health—the project leverages the MRT joint development mechanism to move beyond merely providing space for industrial settlement. Instead, it constructs a comprehensive environment that supports R&D, employment, and daily life simultaneously.
Through connectivity and direct integration with the MRT station, Y15 transforms transportation infrastructure into a component of industrial efficiency. The project demonstrates how Kaohsiung advances from a heavy-industry-oriented city toward a smart technology platform with global output capacity, aligning Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) with industrial policy in parallel.
