Rooted in the traditional Chinese architectural philosophy of “Four Waters Return to the Hall,” this design reinterprets classical courtyard wisdom within a modern six-storey villa. The concept centers around inward-sloping roofs and patios that guide light, wind, and rainwater into the heart of the home—symbolizing harmony, wealth, and family unity. Inspired by this cultural symbol, the villa integrates three courtyards distributed on the lower ground floor, ground floor, and rooftop, forming a vertical spatial experience that blends nature, light, and living.
Spatial planning follows a clear functional logic. The ground and first floors serve as social spaces for hosting, dining, and tea gatherings, while the second to fourth floors provide private living areas in a hotel-suite format, each room equipped with independent cloakrooms and bathrooms to ensure privacy and comfort. A multifunctional island transforms the conventional living room into a flexible social hub, supporting breakfast, afternoon tea, and casual family interaction. The lower basement accommodates staff functions and storage, while also displaying the owner’s musical instruments.
Natural light and ventilation are prioritized throughout. The stairwell creates continuous vertical openness, while the top floor features an intelligent skylight, echoing the courtyard concept and allowing residents to stargaze and enjoy natural breezes. The negative second-floor entry hall introduces dual patios, balancing daylight and creating a serene arrival sequence with water elements.
The design embraces sustainability through the use of eco-friendly materials such as recyclable honeycomb aluminum panels, effective thermal insulation, natural ventilation, and consideration of rainwater reuse. Local plant species support low-maintenance landscaping and biodiversity, while smart systems enhance energy efficiency and environmental comfort.
Blending traditional cultural meaning with contemporary comfort, this project transforms classical courtyard philosophy into a modern residential lifestyle—where seasonal light, natural air, and family rituals coexist in spatial harmony.
