In 2024, the "Hualien County Indigenous Peoples Joint Harvest Festival" celebrated its 20th anniversary and was renamed the "Pacific Austronesian Joint Harvest Festival," symbolizing Hualien’s crucial role in Austronesian culture. This rebranding reflects the indigenous peoples' deep respect for their maritime traditions while also demonstrating a commitment to international connectivity by inviting Austronesian groups from home and abroad to celebrate together. Over two decades, the beating drums and vibrant enthusiasm of this land have echoed ancient traditions, showcasing the dynamic interplay between indigenous communities and nature.
Under the theme "Supu Ta," meaning "Walk Together," this edition diverged from previous years, which primarily featured Amis' cultural expressions, by incorporating a broader array of elements—most notably, the inclusion of Taroko songs and dances. The festival reached its climax with a "Thousand-Person Dance," uniting indigenous peoples and international friends in a shared celebration set to the rhythm of pulsating drumbeats.
The festivities spanned three days and three nights, each night carrying its own thematic message. "Lima Hand-in-Hand Night" symbolized unity and mutual support, "Tosa Lovers' Night" celebrated the joining of hearts, and "Falo Blooming Night" conveyed the flourishing of life. By integrating musical and dance performances, gourmet feasts, and the preservation of traditional crafts, this grand celebration surged forward like rolling ocean waves, propelling Hualien's Austronesian culture onto the global stage.
