Shigang Dam harnesses the abundant water resources of Dajia River, one of central Taiwan's most vital rivers. It serves not only as a provider of public water supply for the Greater Taichung area and irrigation for Chelungpu and Dadu Mountain farmlands but also as a precious water conservation area. Owing to its environmental background, Shigang maintains a harmonious relationship with nature. For instance, the Lovers' Wooden Bridge over Shishuei Stream is crafted entirely from eco-friendly wood that does not pollute the environment. Similarly, the Dongfeng Bicycle Greenway, transformed from an abandoned railway, retains the original timber-transporting tracks and features green beautification on both sides of the trail, creating a green corridor akin to a land version of the Dajia River.
This year, the festival planning emphasizes more diverse and eco-friendly lighting designs while hosting a water resource awareness concert. Using a soft approach, the event highlights the importance of cherishing water resources. Additionally, the festival incorporates mountain-town Hakka cuisine, offering visitors a feast for the eyes, palate, and soul.
The Shigang Light Festival spans two months, covering three major celebrations: the enchanting and magical Christmas season, the hope-filled New Year's Eve countdown, and the Lunar New Year, a time of family reunion and joyful Lantern Festival celebrations. To attract visitors during these festive times, this year's lighting decorations will blend elements from all three celebrations.
Romantic music has always been the perfect seasoning for love stories. Our journey of love begins from the moment the music plays. Love extends hope, and flowing water symbolizes endless affection. Romance and happiness last a lifetime. The main theme of the lighting area, "Melodic Shigang: Blossoming Beauty," will integrate Christmas, New Year's, and Lunar New Year elements into six thematic lighting zones. These zones will combine with Shigang's six iconic landscapes to showcase its natural beauty and festive atmosphere, presenting a dreamy world filled with music, lights, and flowers.
