This project is located in the Science and Education Districts of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in China. The site is a rectangular space with a height of 9 meters and nearly 1,000 square meters. It needs to accommodate three groups of office teams, including laboratories and performance spaces on the basis of retaining the site structure. Creating an innovative experience that is different from the traditional is also a main goal for the architecture design team. Ateliers Channing Zheng raised an idea of "energy-gathering ring". It can not only constructs an efficient dynamic circulation through the main space, which puts the public shared space at the core, but also connects the surrounding private functional areas to form a layout of close interaction and orderly connection. Using the movement of people to create a path for connecting programs, and also using this belt to bounding the activities together.
The design integrates tradition and technology, ecology volume and office space at different scales. To solves the scale imbalance of the site, and combines public and private programs, the design team used architectural methods such as partial elevation and change of orientation. The "energy-gathering ring" design not only ensures the smoothness of the circulation, but also provides moderate independence for the team office area, optimizes functional zoning and spatial efficiency. At the same time, the design focuses on the use of public and semi-public space, maximizes the shared area, and stimulates the maximum use of this innovation center.
The overall project combines the language of traditional Chinese architectural and landscape design with the express of modern ideas from two-dimensional plan to three-dimensional volume. It creates a spatial experience of virtual and real interweaving through natural lighting, ecological landscape and multiple materials. In the end, the design achieves the unity of function and experience, providing an incubation base with both efficiency and creativity for the artificial intelligence industry in the new era.
