Old Trees Tale

The aim of the project “Old Trees Tale” is exploring the interaction between the residents and the old trees, the interesting stories under the trees combine the senses of sight, touch and sound to produce a series of albums about the old trees in Yunlin, the album through different feelings to link up the connection between people and nature, and to feel the memories of the trees in the local community. This unique affection for the old trees is also carried through music and language to pass on the local culture and the spirit of caring for nature to future generations.
The stories of the old trees are different, and each tree has its own personality. After a series of field surveys, we selected some characteristic and unique memories underneath the trees, and completed the series of albums of the old trees in Yunlin by visualizing the stories and producing music and songs.
The album cover is designed to imitate the tree bark texture to create a bumpy effect, and the album content from the inside contains the text of the story of the old tree and the vinyl record, in addition we also made a growth ring record player for music playback, hoping that viewers or the audience can start with tactile sensations from the beginning of the album, and then visual reading and listening to music to resonate with the old trees, and the ingenuity of choosing the "growth ring of the tree" similar to the "vinyl" pattern to be made into a record player lies in the fact that both are carriers of "memory". Placing a vinyl record on a growth ring record player and playing the music is just like listening to the memories of every single old tree.
